Four hundred and sixty exhibitors in an area of over 200,000 m2 and around 150,000 visitors. With these global figures closed the 12th edition of Expoagro, the second held in the exhibition area of the city of San Nicolás, the location for at least the next 13 years. “This is a historic edition”, insisted Rodrigo Ramírez, General Manager of Expoagro and Manuel Passaglia, Mayor of San Nicolás, during the press conference that closed the event.
“It is historic because it is the biggest in the history of the exhibition and also the most developed in terms of infrastructure. In this edition, we counted with paved and illuminated streets in almost all the area, and there were new entrances and parking lots”, they detailed.
But the most extraordinary was the constant support of producers that keep investing in spite of the difficulties. Over 10,000 requests for bank loans were made, with a volume of ARS 20,000 million, a similar amount to last year’s but in a different context. It is necessary to consider that according to data provided by the Stock Exchange of Rosario, the drought impact on the Argentine economy will represent USD 4.600 million, i.e. 0.7% of the GDP estimated for 2018.
The growth of the livestock sector was also reflected. In two auctions, 45,000 heads were sold, adding up ARS 300 million.
Moreover, the international profile of the exhibition was strengthened. During the International Business Round, carried out on Wednesday and Thursday, 567 meetings were held between 17 buyers from 7 countries and over 60 Argentine companies participating in the exhibition. The total amount calculated is above USD 15 million.
Between 13 and 16 March, Expoagro 2018 was center of the political agenda and important announcements for the sector were made. The Argentine President Mauricio Macri and the Governor of the province of Buenos Aires, María Eugenia Vidal, together with Governors from other provinces, Ministers, Legislators and Mayors were also present in this historic event. On its part, this exhibition and the present of the agroindustry called the attention of more than a thousand journalists from all over the country. A total 11,000 persons represented those 460 exhibitors presenting their offer during Expoagro 2018.
Until midday on the last day of this four days’ event, Banco Nación had approved 2244 certificates of interest rate bonus for a total of ARS 6650 million. The other big financial institution also present at this edition, Banco Provincia, in three days had received applications for over ARS 3000 million. Of these numbers, 62% was in dollars and for the acquisition of machinery and capital goods. The Banco de Inversión y Comercio Exterior (BICE) reported over 200 operations until Friday noon, including leasing and inventory credits, reaching a total of ARS 600 million. The BICE representatives stated that they met their expectations, considering that it is the first time they present a line of inventory credits and special leasing, with a subsidy from the Ministry of Production, at Expoagro.
In the first three days of the exhibition, Banco de La Pampa completed 150 applications for ARS 462 million. According to Agustín Ibarguren, Agribusiness Manager of ICBC, this financial institution answered queries for over ARS 500 million. Seventy per cent was for loans in dollars and 55% for the acquisition of machinery. The sector that showed the biggest growth is the irrigation equipment. Twenty per cent of those applications were for the acquisition of pickup trucks (in ARS), a number boosted by the current agreement between the financial organization and Ford.
